1A - College Fair

700 students visited a college fair where 70 universities were represented.

On the 26th of September, 2008, 33 IGA community members attended an annual free college fair at Hilton Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey. The fair, which the Hilton Hotel hosts every fall, was put on by the Council of International Schools. Almost 70 different universities, including colleges from Switzerland, Great Britain and all over the United States, were represented this year and almost 700 students attended, most of them from Turkish high schools. The goal for this event was to give high school students an opportunity to widen their knowledge of colleges and start to think about their futures.

Starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m., students walked from booth to booth, talking to college reps in hopes of learning more about the different universities and collecting numerous brochures. Of the students who attended, 66% of the students felt the fair was a worthwhile experience. All 700 students left the fair with different souvenirs from this event: which 80% of them appreciated the “goodies” which included pens, Swiss chocolate and clog key chains. One of the students who was present at the fair said, “Overall it was a really neat experience to see possibilities for the future and enjoy the extravagant atmosphere of the Hilton.”
